About 5 years in the past, I had a nightmarish experience while working in a private home, and I almost gave up on my residential support business. Instead, I decided to prioritize safety over all at Rejoice Holistic and work exclusively with clients when there is mutual trust between us. I often work with women and families, and never take safety and trust for granted in my field. I am grateful that I did not give up and continued improving my services, soon after this I met a homeowner and passionate pet parent who hired me to assist in upgrading their new long term home, pre and post move in. Meeting this client renewed my faith that I would find many wonderful clients like them, and that many Manitobans are seeking a higher level of safety and trust in services like this. Seeing their home transform into their vision for their dream home, day by day, was an absolute joy.
This home was an older home that had not had many upgrades in the past few decades. Many of the walls were covered in wallpaper with oil based paint underneath. Oil based paint is uncommon for indoor use now, but was more common in the past. I took care to remove the wallpaper and prepare the walls for a transition to acrylic based paint, with detailed cleaning, patching, sanding, priming, and multiple coats of paint. This home is now a modern and welcoming space, beautifully coloured and decorated exactly as this homeowner envisioned and deserves. This move in home upgrade project was a grand undertaking during a difficult period of life for this homeowner, supporting them in seeing their vision come to life was an inspiring privilege.
